NEWARK, Del. - Delaware State Police say they have charged a New Castle man in connection with a robbery at a Citizens Bank in Newark.

Police say around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, the suspect entered the Citizen’s Bank located at 40 Chestnut Hill Plaza. According to police, the suspect approached the teller and presented a note that demanded money. The teller turned over an undisclosed amount of cash. Authorities say as the suspect attempted to leave the bank, personnel activated a “Mantrap,” which is a security device that remotely secures the interior and exterior doors of the bank. The device trapped the suspect in the vestibule.

He attempted to escape; however, he was unsuccessful in his attempts to break out and caused damage to the doors and glass. He was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was later identified as Stephen D. Dunfee, 38, of New Castle. Dunfee was charged with robbery second degree and criminal mischief.
