County Attorney: Mesa police officer sexually assaulted detained women

MESA, Ariz. - A Maricopa County grand jury has indicted a Mesa Police officer on sexual abuse and child molestation charges.

Officer Justin Cherry is a thirteen year veteran of the Mesa Police Department. Accusations of his misconduct surfaced in August of 2013. The department has placed Cherry on administrative leave since that time.

Three women came forward claiming Cherry touched female suspects during searches while the women were detained. An internal affairs investigation was completed and forwarded to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office who presented a case to a grand jury.

The indictment was handed down late on July 31st 2014 and a warrant was issued for Cherry on Friday.

Cherry surrendered to police and was arrested without incident.
