9-Year-Old Separated From Parents In NYC Makes His Own Adventure

Posted: Updated:
New York, New York (My9NJ) -

Imagine spending the day with your parents in New York City and then getting separated? This would of scared most children, but that wasn't the case for a 9-year-old boy Chris Villavicencio from Union City, New Jersey.

Chris got separated from his parents at the Central Park Zoo but managed to make it all the way to Times Square on his own!

Officers from The Port Authority Police Youth Services Unit found Chris. They took him back with them to the Port Authority and Chris got to see inside the police station for the first time. He enjoyed his free time so much, he said it was the best day of his life!

Officer Famiglietti is responsible for finding and recalls exactly how it happened.

"He was in good spirits, the two officers found him on 41st street and 8th avenue. He was not in a bad mood, he was having a great adventure and having a great day and he wanted to get back with mom but was more concerned with having his adventure," he said.

Officer Famiglietti continued to describe what Chris looked like at the moment of finding him.

"We were surprised he was 9, he was very small. But I think the thing that he had going for him was he was walking and he was just determined to just walk around and enjoy himself in the city and he didn't have any questioned look on his face, he didn't look like a tourist that was lost or something like that. He looked like he knew where he was going and he was going to get there no matter what," he explained.

Throughout Central Park, you see mothers with all different ways to keep track of their children, such as holding their hands tightly, not letting their eyes off their kids, and even keeping them on a leash.

Kathy, mother of two boys Seth and Noah, commented on the situation from a mother's point of view.

"It easily could happen but ya know, with them I would be like no way, I would know exactly where you were and to find out that they got all the way to the Port Authority would freak me out. You have to know where they are, and they know, they don't go anywhere without us!" She said.

Luckily, this story had a happy ending. But parents, please take notice that this could happen to anyone! Hold your kids hand and watch them carefully, especially in a city like New York!
