Two arrested after officer-involved shooting, chase

Posted: Updated:

Two people are in custody after an officer-involved shooting and police chase in East Point on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the East Point Police Department tells FOX 5 News that a detective was checking on a report of a stolen vehicle in the 3000 block of Washington Road around 5 p.m. Wednesday. Two men in that vehicle ended up ramming the officer's car repeatedly. Police say the detective ended up getting pinned and was forced to shoot at the vehicle to try to stop it.

Police say the pair eventually took off from the scene as other officers were responding. A high-speed chase ensued. They say the pair ended up striking and wrecking two other vehicles during the brief chase.

The pair ended up ditching the vehicle near Washington and Ben Hill roads. They tried to flee the scene on foot, but were captured a short time later.

One of the drivers that were struck by the fleeing vehicle was taken to an area hospital, but is expected to be okay.

Police say the pair faces multiple charges. Their names have not yet been released.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to investigate the incident since an officer fired their weapon.
