State tightens child support rules

Posted: Updated:

This month the state tightens an existing law aimed at making parents pay child support.

You can have your license suspended if you fall two months behind in your responsibilities.

That law has been on the books. The new regulation would make such a suspension automatic by linking the DMV office with the child welfare office.

A family lawyer says by making collections automated, the payer, male or female, must make sure the accounting is accurate and updated. In other words, don't make a side deal with a former spouse and then fail to notify the child welfare office about a payment or even partial payment.
