WHEELING, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people, including a police officer, were hurt in a crash during a traffic stop Friday morning in northwest suburban Wheeling.

The female officer was sitting in her squad car about 11:30 a.m. writing a citation during a traffic stop in the right curb lane of the 600 block of North Milwaukee when her squad car was struck by another vehicle, according to Wheeling Police Deputy Chief Todd Wolff.

The squad car was pushed into the truck that was pulled over, and a fourth vehicle was also struck, Wolff said.

Both the officer and the male driver who struck the squad car were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with non-life-threatening injuries, Wolff said.

No citations or charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, Wolff said, though the major crash accident team is investigating.
