Father, son killed in Bowie plane crash

Posted: Updated:
A man and his son were killed Friday afternoon when their plane crashed in Bowie, TX, about 50 miles southeast of Wichita Falls.

Department of Public Safety officials said 51-year-old Lawrence Liptack and his 10-year-old son, Landon Liptack, both of Manvel, TX, were aboard the twin engine Cessna 414 when it crashed just before 4 p.m.

The plane crashed in a field that belongs to a local family that wasn't home at the time.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the plane was destroyed by fire on impact.

The Liptacks were trying to land at the Bowie Municipal Airport at the time of the crash, according to DPS officials.

Neighbors say that about five planes take off from the airport each day, most just to refuel.

The cause of the crash remains unknown.

The National Transportation Safety Board will take charge of the investigation and will provide details over the next few days.
