Two early morning shootings in east Oak Cliff left two people dead on Monday.
Police said the series of events began shortly before 4 a.m. Monday at the Sunrise Village Apartments on Prince Hall Lane. Billie Baker, 49, was fatally shot in an upstairs unit during a robbery in his second floor unit.
“I can't believe nobody would want to hurt him,” said one of Lovely's relatives. “He never caused no drama or no pain to nobody for them to do him like that.”
While officers were collecting evidence at the crime scene they got calls about another shooting just after 6 a.m. at the nearby Rosemont of Oak Hollow Apartments on Ledbetter Drive.
A 16-year-old dragged himself from the complex to a 7-Eleven store for help after he was shot in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital.
Kenneth Lovely, 16, was found in the apartment's breezeway and died on the way to the hospital. Police believe the two teens were together at the apartments when the suspect opened fire.
Lovely reportedly attended Dallas ISD's Roosevelt High School.
Police said at a Monday afternoon press conference they believe the shootings were related, but declined to say in what way.
No arrest has been made in the cases, but police said they have solids leads they are investigating.
