Two stabbed in Gary dispute over noise

GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two men were stabbed, one critically, in an argument early Monday that stemmed from an argument about loud music, the Post-Tribune is reporting.

A woman who was hosting a cookout in front of the building in the 2400 block of Arthur Street, told police they were just “talking about the Lord” and claimed they were not making too much noise.

But the discussion turned violent, and Elijah Sturgis, 33, and Varra Jones, 31, both of Gary, were cut, according to police.

They said the attacker, David Campbell, 33, of Gary, who also suffered wounds during the fight, was arrested and told police he accidentally cut himself while he was trying to stab the victims.

As police responded to the apartment complex about 12:20 a.m., officers noticed a car speeding north on Grant Street and followed it to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus emergency room, police said.

They said Sturgis needed help to get into the hospital and appeared to be drifting in and out of consciousness.
