Mo’ne Davis Graces The Cover Of Sports Illustrated

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

She's everywhere and it seems like everyone knows her name.

Now, Taney Dragons superstar Mo'ne Davis is one the cover of the latest edition of Sports Illustrated.

FOX 29's Drew Dickman spoke with her mother and older brother.

He family never expected Mo'ne to get this much attention, this fast, and never dreamed she would make the cover of the biggest sports magazine in the world.

Her mother always thought her daughter would become a famous athlete, not through baseball, but by playing college basketball at UConn.

"She is breaking all kinds of records. I guess she's making history,” Mo'ne's mother, Lakeisha McLean said.

Move over Lebron, Tiger, and Peyton, another athlete known by their first name is front and center on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Mo'ne.

"I guess she's up there with Lebron and Kobe and right now she's like the hottest thing around,” McLean said.

The cover states "Remember her name,” as if we could ever forget.

A familiar phrase to the star pitcher's mother.

"That always was my hashtag, remember her name,” McLean said.

Davis is the first little leaguer ever to be on the national cover of SI.

"I'm the reason she's tough,” older brother Quran said.

Quaran experienced number 3's celebrity long before she made history.

"When I was at Williamsport, I got everybody asking me can you sign her autograph for me? I'm like, I'm not Mo'ne though,” he said.

Just two weeks ago another famed Philadelphia athlete LeSean McCoy was on the cover of Sports Illustrated and beginning Wednesday, much like McCoy, Mo'ne's face will grace the cover of the famed magazine and be sold at newsstands all across the country.

"I know one thing; I'm going to get a thousand copies of it. I'm going to make sure I get a lot for her,” McLean said.

In fact, Davis' mom Lakeisha McLean said she's creating a scrapbook of all her daughter's achievements.

She said Mo'ne enjoyed all the extra attention at first, but now prefers to focus on baseball and her teammates.

"Like she said before, it's not just her that made it this far, it's her team, but she just wants to be a 13-year-old child,” McLean said.

The cover hits the stands the same day Mo'ne will likely toe the rubber against the Little Leaguers from Las Vegas in the US semifinals.
