CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

More than an inch of rain fell in northwest suburban Des Plaines within 10 minutes Saturday afternoon, and that same thunderstorm is now moving into Chicago, the National Weather Service said.

The city can expect to see very heavy rainfall by 3 p.m. as thunderstorms are set to move from the suburbs and into the city, the weather service said.

The storm dropped more than 1.2 inches of rain on north suburban Des Plaines within 10 minutes about 2:15 p.m., the weather service said.

“We are expecting very heavy rain in a short amount of time,” said Ben Deubelbeiss of the National Weather Service. “But it won’t be anything like [Friday].”

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning Saturday for Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
