Community on edge as police search for injured bank robbery suspect

Posted: Updated:
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -  A community is on the edge after an attempted bank robbery goes wrong Thursday outside of a Clinton Township bank.

"It's getting to be like the wild, wild west out here," said Kenneth Jones, a Mount Clemens resident.

Two suspects try to rob an armored car bringing money to a Bank of America location. One suspect shot dead by the money carrier, the other one still on the loose.

"We're asking the community if they hear anything or know of anybody that has a bullet wound," said Police Chief Fred Posavetz. "We believe it is on his right side somewhere by the blood and where the blood was located in the stolen van.

"We've notified all the area hospitals to notify the Clinton Township Police.if they have a patient come in with those types of injuries."

Posavetz says investigators are hard at work to crack this case.

"We're confident that that person is going to get caught eventually," he said. "Also, we are taking DNA from the vehicle and our detectives also have a sample of the DNA from the blood and hopefully we'll be able to get his identity based on that blood."

As police work to solve the case, area residents say they are concerned something like this would happen in their community.
