Multiple media outlets reported Tuesday the Dallas Cowboys plan to bring in defensive player Michael Sam.
The plan, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, is to bring Sam in for a physical. If Sam passes, then he would be added to the team's practice squad.
Sam made history by becoming the first openly gay football player selected in the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams.
Rapoport said Cowboys officials spent Tuesday calling players and gauging their reactions to having Sam on the team.
Sam was the SEC co-defensive player of the year for the 2013-14 season for his play at the University of Missouri.
Sam played the preseason with the Rams, but failed to make the final roster over the weekend. The Rams also opted not to sign him to their practice squad.
