Posted: Updated:

Dallas police arrested a man they say hit a man crossing the street and then left the scene.

Police said 26-year-old Avery Gardner was speeding in his black Crown Victoria and racing another vehicle down South Buckner Boulevard around 10:20 p.m. Thursday.

He ran a red light at Elam Road and then hit a man who was crossing the street about a half a block south of the intersection.

Witnesses said three adults and three children got out of the vehicle and ran toward a Dallas Area Rapid Transit Station.

But, police were able to find them and arrest Gardner. He faces charges of manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.

The victim was a 54-year-old man. His identity has not yet been released.
